Experience SolidWorks 2010

SolidWorks 2010 fosters smarter design by uniting creation, validation, documentation, design management, and environmental impact analysis as a single integrated process. In each of these areas, SolidWorks 2010 optimizes the core capabilities on which you stake your career every day.

Why SolidWorks 2010?

Work Smarter and Faster

The need to get to market faster is driving the decrease in design cycles times. SolidWorks has always introduced new and innovative ways to help with this trend. The result is significant time savings to complete new designs.

Improved Work Experience

Most designers understand how powerful the capabilities of 3D CAD can be. These systems capture a great amount of design intent in parts, assemblies, and drawings that does not exist in 2D. This intent helps users manage design changes and propagate changes through a design database. The main benefit of 3D CAD is making sure that components will fit together correctly the first time.

Prior to SolidWorks, 3D CAD users were forced to spend significant time mastering the system to recognize these benefits. SolidWorks has always been focused on letting users spend their energy on innovative designs and not learning complexities of the CAD system.

Trusted Reliability and Depth of Functionality

SolidWorks always strives to release high quality software with the depth of functionality that our users need to get their entire job done. SolidWorks listens to its customers, and continually improves existing functionality to make it easier to use, faster and able to handle more design situations.

SolidWorks SustainabilityXpress:

Back to Top 10 List...

Challenge:  How will this manufactured product affect the world we live in?

Feature SolidWorks SustainabilityXpress gives users real-time understanding of the environmental impact of their product design, taking into consideration how and where materials are produced, parts are manufactured, and products are used and disposed of.

Benefit: Enables environmentally responsible decision-making for part and assembly design.

Rapid Dimension for Drawing Detailing:

Back to Top 10 List...

Challenge:  How do I avoid cutting dimensions off in a detailed view?

Feature:  A dimension manipulator appears when dimensions are inserted in drawing views. The manipulator automatically spaces the dimensions evenly.

Benefit: Saves time and effort by automating common functions in an intuitive way, which enables faster and easier drawing creation and quick updates.

Improved Mirror Components in Assembly:

Back to Top 10 List...

Challenge: I want more mirroring capability.

Feature:  Maintains the mate when you mirror components. Function is mirrored and connected as well.

Benefit: User does not have to manually reconstruct the mates to parts again, saving production time.

Multibody Support for Sheet-Metal Parts:

Back to Top 10 List...

Challenge:  I have to work with sheet metal and welds in separate environments.

FeatureMulti-body support has been expanded to include sheet metal parts as well as weldments. Different materials types (i.e. copper, aluminum, etc.) can be assigned to the multiple bodies.

Benefit: Greater functionality for sheet metal design in a hybrid environment. A cut list and matching BOM is created for modeling multiple pieces as one part.

Mouse Gesture Heads-Up Interface:

Back to Top 10 List...

Challenge: I want to think more about my design and less about mouse movements to access and execute commands.

Feature: Commonly used commands can now be accessed faster using the mouse gestures wheel, customizable for sketching, parts, assemblies and drawings.

Benefit: Save time and effort in designing and drawing parts. Spend more time thinking about your product or part and less about navigating software.

Sheet-Metal Export to DXF/DWG Enhancements:

Back to Top 10 List...

Challenge: When I create and save a dwg/dxf file, it’s never what I really want. In order to check and edit a part I have to open the file. I wish there was a shortcut.

Feature: Automated real time creation and edit of dwg/dxf file allows you to edit the file in a preview window, achieving the desired result.

Benefit: More intuitive method to set up the dxf/dwg without having to find, open, and edit the file.

Configuration Publisher:

Back to Top 10 List...

Challenge: I have to go into the design table and make additions and changes there. Is there an easier and faster way?

Feature: Now you have a separate tool where you can create configurations through drop down menus, like the properties manager interface, and pulls configuration options into one table to help you choose what works best.

Benefit: Greater functionality inherent in the process, enabling faster results. Faster and easier to create configurations- Excludes options you don’t want automatically instead of manually

Simulation & Motion - Design Studies - Optimization:

Back to Top 10 List...

Challenge: Are there other ways to actuate or execute a task in motion simulation scenarios?

Feature: Now when timing is still unknown, you may execute an action in a motion simulation based on an event or the completion of a task revealing flaws or the successful function of a machine or process.

Benefit: Determine if the actuated steps in a process produce the desired result earlier in the design process.

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM:

Back to Top 10 List...

Challenge: Not intuitive enough for new users. Required more support for proficiency.

Feature: Improved ease of use for experienced users and more intuitive for new users. Installation, commissioning, administration and end user interaction are now easier to implement. Uses configurations as unique part numbers for faster revisions of multiple part numbers in a file. Speed of interactions with the vault are no longer dependent upon the network.

Benefit: Behind the scenes, this vaulting system does more work for you so you don’t have to.

3DVia Composer Support for SolidWorks Configurations:

Back to Top 10 List...

Challenge: Would you please stop bugging me for marketing materials? I am trying to get this assembly finished!

Feature: 3DVIA Composer now supports SolidWorks configurations, enabling users to create materials without heavy dependence upon the engineer to do the work.

Benefit: Saves design time for designing, not marketing or other necessary documentation or sales functions.
